If you live in Ohio and love history and haven’t been to the Historical Zoar Village you are missing out on a treat! I have been to the Zoar Village more than once in my lifetime. I even made it the center of a multi-media project I did in my high school history class back in the late 1980s.
From their Facebook Page: “Zoar Village was founded in 1817 by a group of about 200 German Separatists seeking escape from religious persecution in their homeland. Today, Zoar is a community of approximately 75 families living in homes built from 1817 to the present. Many of the original homes have been preserved or restored, as have the many buildings and museums maintained by the Ohio History Connection.”
Picture Tour of Historic Zoar Village
Historic Zoar Village is a German village containing more than 50 of the original historic structures and buildings. These buildings include: The Zoar Store, Dairy, Hotel (presently closed), Wagon Shop, Blacksmith Shop, Tin Shop, Bakery, Garden and Garden House, Sewing House, Number One House, Kitchen & Dining Room,The Bimeler Museum and the Magazine. I got my info from their Facebook page which I will link to at the end of this post.
All of these pictures are mine. I took them when my boys and I along with some other homeschooling friends of ours attended the Historic Zoar Village Homeschool Days tour awhile back.
But don’t think this is an inclusive picture tour! Oh no. You should go there yourself to walk the grounds, hear and read the stories, try some activities “hands on” and leave with some souvenirs! During our visit the kids got to sample work in the tin shop and more.
Do you have a minute? I would be SO appreciative if you’d answer these short questions to help me know you, my reader, better! It’s an anonymous survey (at this link) and it’s short! Thank you SO, SO MUCH!
