Last fall our family took a trip to Kentucky to see the Ark Encounter and the Creation Museum (again). Along the way we squeezed in two stops in southern Ohio to see the ancient Serpent Mound and the Hopewell Indians Burial Mounds.
The Hopewell burial mounds is located in Chillicothe, Ohio and is in the Hopewell Culture National Historical Park. There is even a small building with both a small museum and gift shop on the grounds.
This place is pretty fascinating and I do recommend make a trip. There are a number of mounds spread out on the grounds and markers telling you what was found in some of them. The picture below was of me and my boys in front of the biggest mound (I believe) and it was in the middle of the grounds.
We only visited this one park…I think there are five, maybe, unless Serpent Mound is part of them. We did visit that one also.
You can read my other posts from our trip below. For information about the Hopewell burial mounds visit their website here.
