My goal is to parent…Intentionally, and it can be a struggle.

I just wanted you to  know that if you struggle with parenting intentionally you are not alone. I find its easier many times to let myself  just “be busy”and let the kids play with their legos or watch videos for long periods of time.

They do such a super job of entertaining themselves and playing together that I take advantage of that.

But… there has to be more. I’m not being a responsible parent if I allow pleasure and entertainment to be the focus of their lives.

Parenting with purpose.

My job as a parent is never done in this season of life, my boys are 6 and 8 and I need to be intentional. They are growing up so fast!
I should write out this verse and tape it to my wall…

“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Psalm 90:12

I need to be involved in training them and this has to be a discipline of mine. I need to teach them God’s word and how to live obediently to him.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7

Intentional parenting.

School may be done but there is much to teach my boys about how to live a successful life in this world.

I need to teach them not only that they can trust God and his word, but how to trust. I am their living example of this.

And it starts with me, personally. Am I obeying God? Am I being faithful?

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Proverbs 22:6

Well.

I am working on this in my home and perhaps I’ll share with you later how I’m going about it and how its coming along.
