Off-grid pantry planner

I don’t exactly have a “Mentor-Monday” post for you today. We’ve had a fun and busy two weeks of VBS at our church and then at another church that taught the kids self-defense techniques. Then today our L.I.F.E. group from church got together for lunch at a local park. Well, this afternoon I was really tired and forgot about my post! But I had this one already prepared.

The boys have been busy reading books and working on goals for the last month or so and I thought I’d give an update.

First, I shared in this post how I combined outside reading reward programs into “one program” for our home use using a chart. They get to color in the blocks as they go and I transfer information to the  proper online or paper forms. So far they’ve met their goals of reading 30 books to earn rewards from some of our local libraries, Barnes and Noble and soon Berean Christian Bookstore.

The boys picked out their new free books from Barnes & Noble for their reading reward program. We don’t have this store in our area, we had to drive up to the Montrose area for this. It’s not too late to get in on this one. Kids have until September to read 8 books to qualify. I think the goal is the same at Berean Christian Bookstore and kids have until July 16th to finish that goal and pick up their $5 gift certificate at Berean on Kid’s Night July 27th.  See my post on these and other reading reward programs.

I finally got their Assessment Notebooks together for the Certified Teacher to review, he also gave them a short reading assessment.  He told me they are working at or above grade level. Brendan (who is 9 and just finished 3rd grade) is reading at or about a 5th grade level and Jack is where he should be for going into 2nd grade.  So good news all around!

And to top off the week, Jack made it across the monkey bars in ONE try! I have a really short video of it below. 🙂

Are your children participating in any reading programs or reaching other goals this summer? Feel free to brag about them in the comments 🙂 .
