For the first time ever our family visited the Kingsway Pumpkin Farm in Hartville, Ohio. It was wonderful! From the smallest details to the many varied themes… this was our best “fall family fun spot” in my opinion. That’s not to say the other places we visited have not been good – and different is good too. But this one was just outstanding and I’ll tell you why I think so- and then be sure to watch my short video below!

How Kingsway got its start 22 years ago.

I got to meet Kevin King and his wife. The farm belongs to Kevin’s side of the family.  Kevin shared with me that back in 1990 his family started selling pumpkins in their yard for some extra money. As time went on they went beyond pumpkins.  His father is a farmer and his mother is an artist. Everything on the farm is made by the family, there is a lot of artwork and you’ll find many opportunities for photo opps.

Why I think its outstanding.

When Kingsway picks a new design for their corn maze they also build a play area to match the theme. They keep the play areas and just move them to another part of the farm so the kids can still play on them. This year the theme is a Firetruck (see my video and you’ll see what I mean) and there are two different games to play as you walk through the maze. In years past they’ve done themes for Egypt, Cinderella, and others.

There’s also a small town and the kids can go inside some of the small structures. Face painting costs only a donation. Train rides (see my video) are $1. They sell food, snacks, pumpkins and more besides the “carnival” food that is also available.

Chickens roam freely!

They have a petting zoo with free roaming birds and bunnies live in little “houses” out in the open.

You’ll find the corn crib to play in and a really cool straw-bale maze (with a slide) inside the barn for the kids. I mean, my boys went through it maybe 3-4 times each and my oldest hid inside the tunnel for awhile. If we didn’t not make them leave with us they may have gone through it a few more times.

The ambiance of fall is so real there on the farm, everything is in walking distance but spread out very nicely and of course, you ride the tractor if you want to pick your own pumpkins. I thought all-in-all just about everything you could want or expect was there plus that great feeling– and hot drinks.  See my video below.
