jcpenney and the boys and girls club of america

As an Ambassador for The Boys and Girls Club of America I’ve had the opportunity to get to know a little bit about this club, what they offer kids whose parents must be away at work and how you can help too.

According to the Boys and Girls Club of America, over 15 million boys and girls go home to an empty house after school.  Many parents are still at work and can’t be home when their kids get out of school.   The Boys and Girls Club of America provides a place for kids to go instead.

“Each year, the BGCA helps prepare nearly 2 million kids to succeed in school. From providing quality afterschool programs (, a caring mentor or simply contributing notebooks and pencils, BGCA strives to enable all kids to achieve great futures. Whether joining in BGCA’s Tools for Back-to-School online supply drive, or rounding up your purchase at jcpenney , BGCA offers a plethora of ways to help every child begin the new school year on the right foot.”

BGCA’s Online tools for Parents

The BGCA website also offers a variety of educational content for parents as they prepare to send children back to school. When you visit the homepage here you’ll see a list of 7 checkboxes next to links. For example,  click on the first one,  “Help your child set Goals” and you’ll be taken to a list of 10 Ways to Help Your Child Set and Achieve Goals. You can even download and print the PDF if you want to keep a copy for yourself.  I liked the Smarter Fun in the Summer list here the Time Management Tips.

How jcpenney is helping BGCA help kids:

BGCA has partnered with jcpenney for the ‘jcpenney cares round up campaign.’ In the month of July, if you round-up your purchase to the nearest whole dollar while shopping at jcpenney, you can help make a difference in supporting afterschool programs at Boys & Girls Clubs across the country. 100% of donations raised will go towards BGCA.  Already jcpenney has raised over $840,000 this month for the Boys and Girls Club of America!

So if you happen to be doing your back-to-school shopping at jcpenney during July, please consider rounding up to the nearest whole dollar to help the Boys and Girls Club of America!
