NE Ohio has been blessed with some amazing weather this year so far, but it shouldn’t be long before the bitter cold and snow makes it’s way. And, just in time for the news I’m about to give to my fellow NE Ohioians..
Spirit Airlines is starting something new in NE Ohio for residents wanting to escape the winter blahs for some sunny warmth in four Florida destinations! Spirit is expanding ultra-low cost service in Northeast Ohio with new service to Akron-Canton Airport offering nonstop flights to and from Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers and Tampa starting November 10, 2016 with flights to Myrtle Beach and Las Vegas starting in April 2017.
How you pay and what you get with Spirit.
My husband and I met with representatives of Spirit several weeks ago to learn more about the company and to talk about the possibility of flying with them as part of a sponsored campaign to get their message out (this post is part of that campaign).
We learned that Spirit is the first airline to offer customers the option to add on the “extras” as a la carte vs. charging everyone for services they don’t need or want.
Your flight ticket with Spirit Airlines gets you and a personal item from point A to point B. If you want anything else – extra luggage as in carry-ons or checked bags, drinks, meals, certain seats, etc… you pay for those extra. You don’t have to have their Bare Fare Bag. Just make sure that your one piece of carry-on fits their requirements.
According to their website here, the personal item dimensions would be “something like a small backpack or purse that fits entirely in the smaller sizer box (16″x14″x12”). For travel after 4/3/2017, max dimensions are 18″x14″x8″.”
What makes Spirit Special?
Spirit has one of the youngest fleets flying which means “fresh planes”. Spirit assures customers of being fuel-efficient and safe. Besides the no-frills Bare Fare ticket price, Spirit offers cozy seating by adding more seats to their planes because when they fly with more people the price per person goes down. Spirit’s simple seating means no reclining seats – so no worries about someone’s head in your lap!
