Note: I’m in the process of moving my 1000thingsOhio.com posts over here to halloffamemoms.com. Thanks for your understanding as I weave so many of our travel stories into my regular content here. This series is from 2016.

Ohio, as a whole, has SO much to offer families looking for fun. One area in particular that we have never run out of things to do in is the greater Sandusky area near Lake Erie.

Recently, and over the past several years, our family has traveled up north to visit places we have either never been to or haven’t been to in awhile. Thanks to Miller Ferry and the coordination of Lake Erie Shores and Islands tourist bureau our family has once again set off on an adventure so we could tell you all about it!

Many of our accommodations were taken care for us, but not all. I was not paid to write and opinions are my own.

Up until this day I was only familiar with Lake Erie Shores and Islands office on Milan Road. On this day, we visited the office on Catawba Island in Port Clinton to pick up tickets and brochures before we set off on the Miller Boat Line/ Miller Ferry. We were about to ferry over Lake Erie to Put-In-Bay for a day of Ohio family fun!

While both Lake Erie Shores and Island offices are nice this one really stands out like a museum! I love the interior. It’s like walking through a model of what the greater Sandusky area offers.

If you get a chance, stop in and check it out and grab some brochures on family fun.  This post is just the kick-off in a series about our most recent weekend trip to the greater Sandusky area! The places we visited that I’m about to tell you about include (links to the other posts in the series will linked at bottom of this post):

  • Riding the Miller Boat Line / Ferry to Put-In-Bay
  • E’s Golf Cart Rental (our transportation on Put-In-Bay)
  • Perry’s Victory and Peace Memorial
  • Perry’s Cave Family Fun Center (Butterfly House, Perry’s Cave and Fort Amaz’n)
  • Touring the Flagship Niagara (I’ll share this last)
  • Staying the night at the Holiday Inn Express on Catawba Island/Port Clinton
  • Marblehead Lighthouse
  • Johnson’s Island and the (Civil War era) Confederate Soldiers Cemetery
  • Historic Lyme Village
  • Seneca Caverns

and a bit of Ohio war history from various wars/battles. I hope you’ll subscribe so you don’t miss a post!
