The boys and I had our first visit to The Wilderness Center in Wilmot, Ohio this summer. Usually twice a month we are busy in a homeschool Lego Club. The other moms and myself decided it would be a nice change of pace to use these Wednesdays during the summer to do some outdoor hiking instead. Since one of the moms is gifted in this area we had her pick some areas to lead us on some outdoor adventures!

With packed lunches and water bottles, we and some additional homeschooling friends joined us on this day. I thought it might be helpful to my readers if I shared about our experience at the Wilderness Center. Some of you will probably want to head out there yourself.

We followed the trail which may have taken less than an hour and ended back at the Wilderness Center which you’ll see below. Check out that really tall look out deck below! I didn’t climb up there but the kids did. Carry some binoculars on your walk and spend some time bird-watching from that height!

There are outdoor stations to play as well as indoor stations for learning. Just outside of the center you’ll find some protected picnic tables to enjoy your packed lunch. Along the trail there is a pond with wildlife! We saw frogs, a snail, and a salamander type thing.

Inside the beautiful center there is a gift shop and up the stairs you’ll find some educational areas. We also saw a live turtle up there and maybe some other critters.
